I love old houses, and I sold my own old home right here on Old Houses, and it is now archived here as well. (Go to Old House Archives, NC, Asheville, 1929 Traditional, Enka Park/Biltmore Lake, Immaculate and Sturdy) When I visit museums, I am always struck by the irony that objects still exist, but the people associated with them do not. Living in, or being a caretaker for an old/historic home is a way of making sure that no one forgets the people who lived there before. The love given to owning an old/historic home and nurturing it is concrete respect for the people who have passed on before and is a part of preserving history for generations to come. Revering old/historic homes is a way to connect the past, the present, and the future in an unbroken line. Let's find your own old home together, or a newer one, which will be old in turn! |
