The History behind Pine Hill
This exquisite home was built in the early 1820s of masonry constrction. Both inside and ouside walls are solid brick which were made on the site from the native clay. Floor joists and flooring materials are timbers shaped from native wild cherry trees. The architectural form was patterned after Gunston Hall, near Alexandria, Virginia, home of George Mason, famous revolutionary political leader and drafter of US Constitution. Home is known as the most outstanding example of Southern architecture north of Mason Dixon Line.Legend presents the house as a frequent stopping place for Abraham Lincoln in his travels between Illinois and the East.
