The William Seigle House

Perched high on the bank overlooking the winding Muconetcong River sits a fieldstone house built between 1790 and 1820. This is a prime example of residential architecture constructed in this area from this era, with the cut stone facing the street and the fieldstone used on the sides and back. A typical double entrance is hidden by the existing porch.
The area known as Seigletown was formerly the site of a grist mill, a clover mill, and a pottery conducted by members of the Seigle family. Benjamin Seigle, who came from Germany, was a captain of the militia during the Revolutionary War. He purchased land just east of Finesville along the Muconetcong River where he built a home and a pottery, and produced items made of red clay (redware) from Kitnersville, PA. (Shards of this redware found on the grounds are displayed in the spaces over the stairs.) He had four daughters and three sons: Abram, Thomas and William. This area is now a part of Finesville, NJ.
