William Reed's Ordinary Tavern

View of the front of this circa 1754 home named William Reed's Ordinary (Tavern)taken from King St. This is probably the oldest home in Hillsborough's Historic District.
Formerly known as Seven Hearths. In the heart of Hillsborough's vibrant Historic District. Easy walking distance to downtown!

Stand on this wide front porch and know that it was here for over 20 years before the Revolutionary War began.

You will love this wonderful large sunny living room with original heart pine floors, mantel & fireplace. Lots of windows..some with original window panes. Room opens to the formal dining room and study. Stairs lead to the upstairs hall and bedrooms.

This large formal dining room was added in the 1860's. There is architectural evidence to support that the room itself was built in the 1700's and moved to be added to the original structure.

This room was added in the 1820's. There is evidence to conclude that this was originally a law office in a different location and moved and added to the house. Notice the orginal heart pine floors, mantel and fireplace.Stairs not seen in the angle lead to the attic which was originally the slaves quarters (with fireplace).

Close up view of the original fireplace and mantel in the large living room. Notice the reed work in the mantel typical of the 1700's!

View of the back yard showing the stately pecan tree. Two large magnolia trees not shown in this view have been enjoyed by countless children for climbing over the last several years!

Another view of the 1820's addition that has been used as a master bedroom, studio and den.

View of the kitchen. Once again there is evidence to lead one to believe that this was the original separate kitchen that in later years was moved and attached to the home.

View of the brick path that leads from the backyard to Cameron St. This home is located at the corner of E. King St. and Cameron St. These two streets were originally Indian trading paths and have been in existance for hundreds of years.
