A Home That Has Been Loved
The Mabry Harper Home in Covington, GA was built by a husband for his new wife around about 1850. Later it became a Boarding House, a school, and, in the 1980s was once again restored to a single family dwelling.Since 1996 it has been our home and has lovingly cared. The building is sound, built atop a foundation whose various materials tell stories of its past. A strong, old "felled" tree makes up its central spine.
The orginal house was a four on four shotgun style with a central hall. A kitchen area was added in the late 1800s and a den in the early 1990s. Various renovations have occured over time, the most recent being reconstruction of the front wall and the addition of a welcoming portico that includes a Juliet porch.
Lovely low-maintenance gardens surround the home and behind the back fence lies the entry to one of the most beautiful historic cemeteries one could imagine. It contains a Civil War burial area and its oldest gravesites contain the remains of individuals born in the 1700s.
Walking to restaurants, shopping, music and Concerts on the Square, softball, baseball or football games, elementary school, and church service takes 3 - 5 minutes.
