An original Zoar home
This home is an original Zoar house, House #21, dated to early 1820's. It was the home of the tanner and his family when Zoar was a communal society. The tannery which made leather shoes and harnesses was across the street. The family in House #21 also cared for the society's 200 geese which were plucked yearly for pillows and feather beds. This is a large five bedroom home that has been updated but retains it's original charm. When you enter the front door into the center hallway, notice the Zoar pegs lining the wall. The brick and timber wall is noggin and exists in all the exterior walls of the older section of the house. The Zoarites used a seven point star as an emblem. Look for the framed star in the dining room. Proceed upstairs to the master bedroom where you will notice an old "kas", or wardrobe, that was made in Zoar.Archived in December, 2012
