1793 Historic Home

York, Pennsylvania 17408

1793 PA Stone Farm House

George Washington Slept Here!

It has been rumored that George Washington slept in the Eisenhart/Groff Home located in West Manchester Township, York, PA, and built in 1793. While we have been unable to prove this, we do know that the house was in existence on at least two occasions when General Washington visited the area, was known to be just miles from the house, and likely passed by the house during his travels.

History

If only these walls could speak. The richness of this home’s history is unparalleled. The original owner/builder (George Eishenart) was a blacksmith who also practiced medicine, and therefore, held the title of “doctor.” He and at least one son were members of the Revolutionary militia. During the Civil War, Confederate troops marched by the house and stole horses from the pastures on their trek to Gettysburg, PA. The historical significance of this home is a treasure.

The Time Has Come

After 35 years of renovating, living in, and raising our three children in this historical home, it is an emotionally difficult decision for us to make, but the time has come for us to pass the torch of ownership onto the next family who will continue to love and appreciate all that this home has to offer. Our children have all relocated out of state, and we will be moving to be closer to them.
