Historic Colonial House

This 18th C center chimney post and beam house is located in the historic village of Montgomery, NY in Orange County. Montgomery was formally known as Wards Bridge but was renamed after Gen. Richard Montgomery in 1810. This house is located in the earliest historic section of the village by the famed Wallkill river (flows north). The house was renovated and modernized in 1964. However, in 1966 when the present owner bought the property she began to uncover some of the original amenities to the house, such as wide floor boards with old square nails, fireplaces with animal hair in the mortar, hand hewn ceiling beams and a large walk-in fireplace in the basement keeping room. The original structure was a saltbox style but a beam in the attic reveals a date of Oct. 20th 1840 when the roof was raised to it's present state. The chimney shows where the roof line was.As the years passed the owner opened a successful antique shop business on the lower two levels with apartment upstairs.
