Beginning her life in 1847 as a four room "country home" with 18 inch thick brick walls, her past reads like a novel checkered with dramatic characters in changing times! From the mid-1800's, Cole Younger and others have stood in the shade of the elms, danced through her double doors, and even scuffled with Union soldiers while the citizens of a country in turmoil struggled to reconcile a world that compelled them to change as they struggled to cling to the life they knew best. One of the few homes saved from the looting and destruction of Order No. 11 on August 25, 1863, Elmhurst is located on approximately two acres within a mile of historic downtown Harrisonville, Missouri, the county seat of Cass County. The home was remodeled in the Greek Revival style in the early 1900's. The hotwater heat system was updated two years ago and a sun room was added in the 1980's.
