Listing No. 19849

c. 1848 Greek Revival
Huntsville, MO

W. T. Rutherford / Block House

The home was originally built by Dr. Miller from St. Louis. He purchased a large lot on the outskirts of the main street of Huntsville from Joseph Coppage Dameron's 2000 acre tobacco farm. In 1848 the good doctor built a stylish two story four room house for his wife, but she quickly tired of life in a small "wilderness" town and insisted on moving back to St. Louis. In 1850, William Turner Rutherford of Virginia married Phoebe Jane Dameron. William and Phoebe purchased the home in 1850. Over the years they doubled the size of the original house. This home was recently restored and renovated by Rutherford's great great granddaughter
