National Register of Historic Places

Bishopville Historic Commercial Business District

The Manor-Tisdale House

529 N Main Street is arguably the most architecturally significant home in Bishopville. The Manor-Edward M. Tisdale home has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1985. A detailed description and short history of the home is available online at the National Register of Historic Places: TheManor-TisdaleHouse,Bishopville, SC.pdf. Ownership of this historic residence has remained in the same family since it's completion in 1918. The dining room suite was custom built for the home and will convey. The Manor has been meticulously maintained and cared for over the years. A standing seam metal roof was installed in 2006; a 4 ton split system HVAC unit was installed for second floor in 2013; a 5 ton 15 Seer HVAC heat pump was installed for the first floor in 2014. While the home is move in ready, the kitchen could use some updating. Combining the kitchen and den in a complete renovation will make the home current and more enjoyable, all the while maintaining its diserable Southern Charm. The two outbuildings, a garage and a storage building, appear to be original with the original tile roofs. The lot is on the corner of N. Main Street and W. College Street and is an acre or more in size. The Manor is a wonderful example of a true Southern Mansion, and is well suited for a family home or a vacation home. With some effort and renovationThe Manor would be an ideal Bed & Breakfast. It is 30 minutes or less to Florence, which has an airport served by national and regional carriers, and Francis Marion University with a variety of arts and sports programs. It is about the same distance to Hartsville, home of Coker College, also heavily involved in the arts. Florence is also home to the McLeod Regional Medical Center and Carolinas Hospital System, both large regional health providers. Bishopville is also only about 30 minutes from Camden, SC, a Revolutionary War battleground site with associated historical buildings and places. Camden is also horse country, and is home to two national steeplechase cup races annually. A leisurely two hour drive east will get you to Grand Strand's Myrtle Beach. The Grand Strand is comprised of 80 miles of beautiful beaches, restaurants, golf, theaters and much more. Driving west in about an hour and a half brings you to the capital city of South Carolina, Columbia, the home of the 200 plus year old University of South Carolina and it's national and SEC champion sports teams. Columbia is also home to Fort Jackson, our country's largest US Army training facility. How about an enjoyable weekend in Charleston, another approximate two-hour drive down I-95 and I-26, or SC Hwy 41 through the beautiful low country. Or would you prefer the Blue Ridge mountains and all of it's scenic glory only three to four hours away. Then there is Charlotte, NC, between one and two hours depending on choice of route. It appears to be safe to say that Bishopville is centrally located in South Carolina with a veritable smorgasbord of places to see and things to do. Don't let owning this piece of history slip through your fingers!
