Tranquility - True Southern Elegance
Tranquility was built between 1911 and 1916 by a local planter, Mr Lawrence Bundy. The story is that a share cropper found a chest buried in one of the fields and took it to Mr. Bundy. Inside was reputed to be a small fortune in silver and other valuables that had been hidden from the Yankees during the War of Northern Aggression. Mr. Bundy decided that he wanted a house as fine as the White House (albeit a bit smaller) and had Tranquility built for himself, his wife and their tubercular daughter. Only three families have lived in the house.Tranquility is a National Register listed Colonial/Greek Revival home with fabulous woodwork (some with faux graining), 10 fireplaces (five with gas logs), family and formal stairs, all thermopane windows (wood inside/vinyl clad outside), some stained glass, original five panel doors (with matching original hardware), two sets of huge working pocket doors, and built-ins in the butler's pantry and dining room. New custom wood storm/screen doors on all but two exterior doors, original ceiling fixtures on site, 10' ceilings downstairs, 9' ceilings upstairs, three full bathrooms, original big clawfoot/pedestal iron tubs, Jacuzzi tub in the master bath, wrought iron fence at front and sides, small and large areas fenced in back for children/dogs. Historic district (no trailers), almost completely renovated interior, huge deep wrap around porch, second-floor porch, screened porch, fully insulated, rewired and replumbed, newer TRANE HVAC with two gas packs and two compressors. Lovely mature landscaping with loads of dogwoods, camellias, hollies, azalea, naturalized oxalis, daffodils, narcissus, daylilies and snow drops, pecan trees, hydrangea, plus many perennials. Five outbuildings: brick gazebo with new roof, 3 room wash house/smoke house, two room cottage (unrestored), peacock house with new roof, two story barn/workshop with three bays. Cable, high-speed DSL, and satellite are available. Town water and sewer, plus a pump/well for watering gardens, etc. Extremely private. Low taxes.
Downstairs: Living room, dining room, kitchen, family room with wide back staircase, laundry/pantry, butler's pantry, music room, office/bedroom, full bathroom, huge foyer with fabulous paneling and moldings, and a large, graceful formal staircase.
Upstairs: Three large bedrooms, hall bath, master bath with Jacuzzi tub, walk-in closets, attic access, wide hallway/library with tall double doors to the upstairs porch/balcony. Original heart pine floors.
Exterior was prepped, primed and painted with two coats of high-quality gloss paint in summer of 2011.
It is very unusual to find an old house in great structural shape with all new systems at a reasonable price. This house has passed three home inspections and appraised for higher than the listed price.
