More About This House
This home is estimated to have been built just before the turn of the century...1898-1900. It originally sat on over 100 acres but the land was divided up early on and now the home is on a 1.5 acre tract. Some minor restoration was done prior to the ownership of the current seller, however, most of the renovation/restoration was done with great attention to detail by the current owners. The front porch has new pine flooring, widened front steps and added railing at steps and around porch. The original columns were "cleaned up" and left intact. The original siding was covered years ago with vinyl siding. Storm windows were added for energy efficiency and to preserve the original windows.
The entrance foyer features the original staircase with wood steps and treads and turned balusters...solid as a rock. A creatively added powder room below the staircase. You'll love the little corner sink that was imported from France...always a conversation piece. The plan was modified to allow for a private owner's bath, so the original entrance for the original bath was closed to create a cedar closet that now has built in drawers as well as some storage.
The owner's suite is accessed from the foyer where you will find a nicely sized bedroom with small closet and fireplace which was recently restored to the original brick. A Vermont Castings wood stove was added. Also added a custom built wardrobe that provides additional clothes storage. You'll love the sitting room/study with a wall of custom bookshelves that can be accessed from the sliding ladder...like in the movies! There is an additional fireplace and wardrobe that contains a pull down hanging upper clothes rod.
There is a family room w/additional fireplace with wood stove...leading to Dining room w/fireplace and LInen/China closet...leading to totally remodeled modern kitchen...Beautiful! The pantry/laundry room is adjacent to the kitchen.
Upstairs you'll find a "reading loft" and two additional bedrooms, one with fireplace and both have closets. A full bath was added in recent years to provide access to guests using the upper rooms. Vanity room, 48" tiled shower and toilet. Mitsubishi wall units recently added for comfortable temperatures.
Many original wood ceilings and Shiplap wood walls have been preserved on the interior. Brazilian teak hardwoods were added on the main floor and painted pine floors added to the upper level. A metal roof completes the picture for this beautiful historic house.
If you're handy and would like a workshop, a 12' x 24' building with two loft areas sits behind the house. Electric service is accessible if you'd like to turn into a workshop!
