Welcome to historic Briscoe House

The William T. Briscoe House, situated in the historic Village of Charlotte Hall, is also known as The Old Brick Tavern, The Old Tavern, Kilgore’s Tavern, and Old Stagecoach Inn. The earliest structure noted on the property was Kilgore’s Tavern, built circa 1690. This property has been included on the National Register of Historic Places, U.S. Department of the Interior, as part of the Charlotte Hall Historic District, which also contains Ye Coole Springs, Charlotte Hall School (now Charlotte Hall Veterans’ Home), Dent’s Chapel and several other residences. The brick Federal-style building was constructed in the shape of a “U”: at the rear elevation of the two-and-a-half-story main block are two smaller one-and-a-half-story matching wings. In addition to the stately main house, there are several other structures: a 2-bedroom guest house, storage shed (once used as the smokehouse), potting shed, two-car garage with electric, and an inground pool.
