Located in the charming town of Clifton Forge, this property is within walking distance of the train station where you can travel to Washington D.C. or New York City.

It is 40 minutes from the Homestead and the Greenbrier and only 30 minutes west of Lexington Virginia, home of the Virginia Horse Center, Virginia Military Institute, and Washington and Lee University.

Clifton Forge is at the intersection of Interstate 64 and 220 and this house is within four miles of the I-64 onramp.


Three (3) majestic fireplaces, with vent-free gas logs in each will have you appreciate the colder days & nights. The main fireplace has large ionic fluted columns and capitals. The dining room fireplace has carved lion heads. All fireplaces have a cast iron firescreen with an image. Two fireplaces are marble surrounds, the other is antique ceramic tile.

High efficiency gas furnace, I pay less to heat this house at 70 degrees than most smaller older houses pay to heat themselves at 60 degrees.

The breakfast room is built with glass windows/walls from the same era as the original house. The breakfast room has a separate heat system so you only pay to heat a windowed room when needed.

New roof. The roof has a copper/glass cupola. This is accessible to have a light installed inside, which would look cool, but I have never done this.

Mature plantings, including the largest red dogwood in our area. The azaleas are a delight in the spring.

Fresh fruit abounds in the summer from the two cherry trees, two plum trees, two peach trees, four grapevines, and four currant bushes. The flowers on the peach tree will rival the red dogwood in the spring.

The peach trees, four azaleas, lilac, many roses, and dogwoods are all visible from the breakfast room, as well as many planted flowers.

The entry is the nicest I have seen.

There are two staircases leading to the second floor.

The kitchen has a stainless steel dual fuel range (gas cooktop, electric convection oven, with a warming drawer).

The second floor has heart pine floors in all bedrooms.

There are two walk-in closets, and a walk-in hall closet. Every bedroom has a closet.

All doors, windows, and openings have neoclassical casings. The doors all have large back-plates behind the knobs.

Four very large bedrooms (approx. 17x17), one normal size bedroom and one small bedroom. The normal size would be a large bedroom by today’s standards. The small bedroom was originally built as a nursery, right across from the master bedroom (perfect for a grand-child or new bundle of joy). I currently use this bedroom as an office. However, it will fit a full size bed & dresser without problem. It also is accessable through the Master Bedroom and could be easily converted to a major walk-in closet.

The master bedroom has his & her closets (walk-in for her closet). Again, if more closet space is needed, the other small bedroom could be converted.

High ceilings abound, 10 feet on the first level, 9 feet on the second floor, and 8 feet on the third floor.

Seven chandeliers are all operated by dimmer switches for the ultimate in mood lighting and energy savings.

The backyard has a portico leading to the alley. The backyard looks over the mountains, not neighbors, which is rare for a house in town.

There are three porches, a large front and back porch and a small porch on the second floor. The second floor porch will overlook the city, which is most beautiful at night.

House is for water lovers. 45x18 foot swimming pool, and separate hot tub.

House has another 1000 sq/ft of outside porch area.

The city water is bottle quality. Many corporations have attempted to purchase some portion of the water supply for bottling, including evian and nestle (nestle makes San Pelligrino and Aquarel). Imagine how good you would feel after bathing in bottle quality water.
The plumbing is all 3/4 inch copper.

The restorations in this house have been the talk of the town for the last few years.

Most, if not all, furniture is available for separate purchase. Curtains will convey with the house, except for the curtains in the master bedroom.

The house is freshly painted.

Within four minutes of the new YMCA. This was a 4 million dollar complex when built last year. YMCA has a massive exercise complex and indoor swimming pool. Brand new schools (about 5 years old). Thriving restorations of the area. Trust fund with 20 million funds local charities each year. Heir to reynolds aluminum foil is a resident and is purchasing the poorer homes. Good paying jobs at Mead/Westvaco, the hospital, and the Railroad.

Largest hospital in the area (area includes following counties Craig, Botetourt, Alleghany, Bath, Highland, and Rockbridge) is only 3.8 miles away.
