Stoneleigh, The Castle

Driveway View
Driveway View
This is what you'll see when you drive up the drive, and it only gets better inside!
This is one of the last stately homes in this town and one of the only stone homes we've seen in our travels. (We've seen home with stone fronts, but this one has walls four feet thick at the foundation, and three feet on the way up). It is imposing in size, and features elegantly stated interiors, from the solid wood pocket doors, wooden walls, and cozy library with built-in shelves. Its back half is very cozy as well, and is separated from the main part by a pantry with roomy cabinets. This home is well worth more than its asking price, but given the current market and the location in this small, quiet area of the Adirondacks, we needed to be realistic. This is a must see as photos won't do it any justice. We are using it currently as a B&B, so you're welcomed to check out more photos on our website, at stoneleighbedandbreakfast dot com to get a feel for the rooms, the hallways, the interior balcony, and other attributes. This is a very, very nice home. We are only selling it due to our age, and energy levels. This home needs someone that can appreciate it and keep it in the manner to which it's become accustomed.

This is a once in a lifetime buy.

What you'll get when you buy this home is one of those "WOW" houses you usually see only in movies. It has a grand foyer that opens to a cathedral ceiling that's about 25 feet high, and there's a balcony that overlooks the foyer. There are stained glass windows looking down from the uppermost reaches of the dormers at the front and rear of the peak. The foundation is solid stone and runs about 4 feet thick, tapering up as it climbs to it's height of probably 8 feet. The front half of the building is all stone, with a stone fireplace in teh main downstairs hall. The wiring was updated when we moved in in 1970, as was the plumbing. About 5 years a go a new boiler and baseboard heating was installed. The electric hot water tank only 4 years old. The fuel tank is in the basement so it's protected from the elements and from pilfering. There is original woodwork throughout the home, and much of the fireplace surrounds have hand carved touches. There are wonderful carved supports "holding" up the upper/inner balcony, and the pocket doors are thick and sturdy. There is really so much to this home that attempting to describe it here is nearly impossible. To really see it you'd need to come by and check it out. Or, you can see it at the B&B website by using stoneleigh bed and breakfast . com, starting with www. Put it altogether and it'll take you to alot more photos than I can post here.

The only real neighbor nearby is a little home to the back of the property with a right of way at the edge of the property. They share the start of the driveway, as well as one side yard. There are other nieghbors, but they live on Water Street, down at the foot of the driveway.

This is not a lark and there is nothing wrong with the house or property-it's just time to move south and let someone else carry on the love.
