The oldest house in the charming hamlet of Barrytown, this rare stone and clapboard home was built in 1728 by Phillip Heinrich Mohr, a Palatine German farmer. The Palatines, who arrived in the Hudson Valley in 1710, were German immigrants and were the first settlers in the Red Hook area. Unlike many other antique homes, this simply elegant 2200 sf, 3 bedroom, 2 bath Palatinate gem is magically situated in a clearing surrounded by protected lands with wooded boundaries, mature trees and a crystal clear pond on a tranquil road with spectacular Catskill Mountain views. Much of the original detail is intact, such as the 12-over-12 divided light windows, the wideboard floors, exposed beams, 2 wood panelled fireplaces, Dutch doors and the original stone smokehouse.
