Kenny Chesney slept here!
This home is full of history...built by a physician in 1914, and then sold to The Lambda Chi Fraternity (where a famous musician lived during college and even penned songs about)...to a single family dwelling in a family oriented neighborhood with an award winning elementary school one block away...Walk the little ones to school like in years past. Also, walk downtown for venues like The Blue Plum Festival or just to enjoy a nice dinner! Great eclectic neighborhood!

Totally remodeled in last 10 years.
This home went through an extensive restoration. Recent owner bought this property and painstakingly restored it over a ten-year period until his death. All the plaster was replaced with new drywall, and the walls are newly insulated. All of the old wiring has been re-worked as well. The plumbing has been replaced with new copper or pvc plumbing in the house. The windows have been restored and replaced. Two of the four bathrooms have claw foot tubs and the other two bathrooms have been modernized. The master bath has a two person jacuzzi tub and a large shower with double vanities. Two kitchens are in the house. The laundry has been moved upstairs to the second floor. The orginial dumbwaiter still works in the kitchen. There are four exposed fireplaces with only one currently being used as wood burning on the main floor. A new energy efficient wood burning stove was added in December 2010. The other three have the ornate iron coverings. The house has three separate gas heat/electric air units, which were installed approx.ten years ago. The kitchen and back office have imported mexican tile on the floor. The roof, guttering, soffitts, and porch roof were replaced upon purchase. The side porch has a metal roof to hear the rain! All appliances, countertops, and cabinets were replaced with the restoration in both kitchens. All orginial flooring is intact with some minor repairs. Hardwood on main floor has been refinished this year. There is a beautiful staircase at main entry. The whole house is BEAUTIFUL!Additional Information about house:
The basement still contains the large brick bar and fraternity symbols made by the frat boys. The instant, on water, heating system can be found here as well (gas operated). The basement has been cemented and used for storage since the fraternity lost the house (It was used for "underground" parties by the fraternity so the neighbors wouldn't call the police...). The first floor consists of kitchen, large library, large dining room, large den, full bath with a claw foot tub and a later addition that I use as an office/play room. The ceilings are 12 feet in heighth, which makes air conditioning unnecessary, but it is available if needed. The second floor consists of four bedrooms including the master and two full baths. One of these baths is the master and one has a claw foot tub which is in the jack/jill style between two guest rooms. The master has a dressing room with full lengthed mirrors and doors out onto the upstairs porch. The second kitchen and laundry are also on this floor. All floors are hardwood and ceilings are 10 feet tall. The third floor has three additional bedrooms and one modern bath. The rooms are HUGE and have transom windows in each one. The stairs also have the carvings of all of the fraternity brothers upon their acceptance into Lambda Chi..including Kenny Chesney's (CMA music star) I.O. number. The stairs, hallway and bathroom are hardwood...the bedrooms are berber carpet which is virtually new. The windows on this floor are arched eyebrow windows. The windows in the rest of the house are 7 feet by 3 feet.Outside the House:
The side yard is fenced with white pvc picket fencing to contain dogs or children. It has gates on the front and back of the house. It connects to the porch which allows the door to be opened from den/dining room area to let dogs/kids in and out of the house easily. There is a custom shed in the fenced part of the yard to hold yard tools, lawn mower, etc. One side has a locking door while the other side offers dry storage but no locking door(Could be easily added). Storage shed is painted to match house and was stick built on sight (My father kept antique tractors in it mostly). It has a shingle roof and antique windows of course! The house sits on a corner lot with a nice view of the surrounding area. As stated earlier, the elementary school is one block away with its playground and preschool programs. Most parents walk their kids to and from school in this neighborhood. The yard has tons of flowering bushes and landscaping (It will depend on your preference..too much for me but probably not enough for a "yard person"). Two trees in the yard are well over 100 years old..one is a magnolia and the other is rumored to be a rare kind not seen anywhere else in town(Told to me by an arborist working on the neighbors trees). The front porch has fierce white lions that have been with the house for years. The orginial gas lanterns can be seen from the street..electric ones now exist too. This house offers a nice spacious driveway which some homes lack in this subdivision. I have had a wedding outside this home with engagement photos taken inside as well.Archived in April, 2013
