Red Gables - Circa 1907

This 1907 Victorian, built by the aunt and uncle of Helen Hayes, sits on the hilltop of the historic town of Clifton, Virginia. Consisting of almost three acres, the property boasts of glorious perennial gardens filled with hydrangeas, crape myrtles, azaleas, hollys, magnolia tree, redbuds, among others. A large Williamsburg garden with potters shed sit adjacent to a four car garage and carriage house. A horse stable graces a fenced meadow suitable for riding and training.

Nestled in the tree-laden corner of the property is an 18th century log cabin imported from Tennessee that serves as a guest house. A working fireplace, full bath, eating area, and kitchen offer the comfort of modern living.

Adjacent to the main house is an in-ground pool that sits above a lilly pond and gazebo.

The main house is reflective of the character of a vintage property coupled with contemporary renovations, including a gourmet kitchen, masterbath, spacious sunroom, and dining room with original wood burning fireplace. Original millwork, hardwood floors, and stained glass windows preserve the distinctiveness of the property.

In 2009, the exterior of the home was repainted, the pool was refurbished, and a new water softener and heating/air system was installed. Hardwood floors have been refinished and a new masterbath was installed in 2010.
