McCanless-Shimpoch-Shaver House

This two-story frame house is thought to have belonged first to the McCanless family but owes its present appearance to Dr. Rufus Alexander Shimpoch (1835 - 1904) who purchased the house after the Civil War. Dr. Shimpoch, a Cabarrus County native, attended Mt. Pleasant Collegiate Institute. He practiced medicine in Gold Hill until his death. The house was also the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Love Shaver. In the 1880's he added the one-story porch which carries across the front and side elevations of the house and the ell on the rear elevations. The house has been expanded and altered since by the subsequent owners.
