The Ross-Carroll home is one of the most interesting homes you will see. Built in 1899 by Mary (Dwyer) Ross on land inherited from her father, Thomas Dwyer. Matilda (Ross) Carroll inherited the house in 1941 and it remained in the family until 1970 when the Bennett family purchased the home. Steeped in history, this home is significant to the Brenham area. This is an architectural masterpiece with features that are rare. Queen Anne Victorian style house features ornamentation in its open tower, a second level porch with horseshoe arches and jigs with friezes and brackets. Built of cypress this home has stood the test of time. Standing on a corner lot this home is significant and noticed by passersby.

If you love wood moldings, wainscoting, attics, large rooms, this is the perfect place for you. The ceilings are approximately 12’ tall lending the feeling of open and large spaces.

A double foyer entry leads to the inviting rooms. The center entry hall provides access to the entire home without undue traffic through other rooms. Old-fashioned parlor charm is provided by antique details, the polished hardwood floors in dining room will set the atmosphere for formal dinning. The kitchen is large and open with breadboard walls. The den which was an office with octagon shaped room used as a music area. Also, leading from there is the room which was the doctors examining room and served the most recent owners as an office complete with elevator to the second floor. The majestic staircase with carved baluster and wainscoting of burl wood gives an elegant air to the entry area.. Upstairs you will find the large hall and access to the upper porches and attic. Five bedrooms total with two bathrooms are up.

There is a covered gazebo style carport and Victorian style garden. To complete the grounds there is a separate area for the family pool.

There are so many details to this home it is hard to describe them all. All doors have transom windows above for circulation. Extensive fretwork in door openings and additional details are throughout the home.
