Croome Settlement School

History, restoration, and quiet country solitude.

Located on an acre of land in the quiet countryside of Upper Marlboro MD. This historic home marks the beginning of an important effort in the African American education movement of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Its beginnings were established in 1894 when St Simon’s Chapel was established as an off spring of St Thomas Episcopal Church. Known as The Croom Industrial and Agricultural Institute of Prince George’s County in 1903 and later in 1918 as Croom Settlement School until it finally closed in 1952. NOTE: The Upper Marlboro Historic Preservation Commission has designated this home as a historic site.
