The scenic Great River Road or Highway 79 runs straight through the downtown area of Louisiana. This historic riverfront town has a number of historic homes with one of the most intact Victorian streetscapes in the state. The Downtown Historic District offers specialty shops including a pewter foundry, antiques, gift shops and more.

Walk from downtown to the beautiful Riverfront Park where you can enjoy the views from benches or launch your boat.

Other sites of interest include the Louisiana Public Library, a Carnegie Library, the Stark Brothers Nursery, the oldest fruit grower in the country, River View Cemetery dating prior to the Civil War, Henderson Park with views of Champ Clark Bridge, and the old Glove Factory now a sculpture park.
