Beautifully Restored Family Farmhouse

View from driveway
View from driveway
A very special family home which is also terrific for entertaining. Completely remodeled very large eat-in kitchen, and added a fully finished basement including lower level full bathroom, kitchen level laundry room. There is a large back deck which is hidden from the road and great for grilling and entertaining in the summer as it is in the shade after about midday and there are two other porches. It is a corner lot with yard on two sides, so there is easy access to the side streets where kids can ride their bikes safely. The elegant and spacious dining room plus family room and living room, five bedrooms, one being used as a study, plus huge basement make for a really comfortable house for a family. Large rear shed suitable for conversion to a garage. Huge attic space. High ceilings, tasteful decor, original wide pine floors. Many improvements and updates since purchase in 2002. Horseshoe driveway. Recent landscaping. Friendly neighborhood and outstanding local schools.

Taken from the kitchen door, this picture of the dining room, which is an almost square room, looks through to the front sitting room (to the far right) and the front hallway. It doesn't really do justice to the dimensions of the room.
Taken from the dining room door, looking into the kitchen. There is a wall of cabinets not in view to the left of the camera position. To the right, behind the girl on the bar stools, is a desk area as well as a half bath. Just past her is a separate utility room with washer and dryer and access to the large back shed.

Lovely wide original pine floors in excellent condition. I love the flow of the floor plan on the ground floor. The front living room, dining room, family room and kitchen all open to each other.
I should have tidied up a bit before taking this but it shows the layout and size ok. The family room is through the door on the far right and the dining room through the one on the far left of the picture. There is a desk area on the left next to the window. The wall of cabinets includes two with large pull out shelves for tons of pantry space, and two that we currently use as cubbies for the kids' coats, backpacks etc.

Norfeldt elementary school

The local elementary school is within easy walking distance and is a great neighbourhood school with the additional benefit of a "classical curriculum" - students start French in 1st grade and do Latin in fifth grade. The teachers are terrific and our children loved it there. All students have the chance to take up an instrument in fourth grade and the band and orchestra are also really good.

Hall High School, an easy bike ride away on quiet side streets

This is one of the two excellent high schools in West Hartford. One of our children is in his second year here and loves it. The music, sports, theatre and choral programs are excellent, most especially the jazz program. Kids here go on to excellent colleges and are extremely well-prepared.

The new shopping and entertainment area of West Hartford.

Movies, restaurants, Crate and Barrel, Barnes and Noble and lots of lovely boutiques in an almost quaint, walkable centre has added a new dimension to West Hartford.
