The foyer is entered through double beveled glass front doors. This is a large gracious area that contains the grand staircase leading to the second floor. A hallway leads from the central foyer, through an arched opening to a guest coat closet & powder room, and to a side sun porch. To the left just inside the foyer is the music room where there is an outstanding example of molded plaster displayed in the crown molding that offers a deep dentil design. The ceiling also is decorated with a decorative molded plaster. The fireplace mantel in this room is beautiful, having been designed and decorated to compliment the crown molding. Across the foyer is the spacious parlor/living room that has a molded plaster ceiling design of acacias leaves and a lovely fireplace mantel.
The parlor connects to the dining room by way of glass-paned pocket doors. The dining room has its own fireplace with a surround of Italian tiles that have been painted. 2 of the tiles have been stripped of paint as to show an example of their original look. This is a large room with built-in cabinets and drawer storage. The fronts of the cabinets have the original leaded glass fronts.
The inside wall surfaces are smooth plaster over tile. The floors in the side hallway, music room, foyer, living and dining rooms are wonderful examples of inlaid oak parquet.
A breakfast room has a stencil design on the painted floor. Located in this room is an elevator that rises to a second floor bedroom. This breakfast room connects to the kitchen at the rear of the house. The kitchen retains its original black and white tiled floor and has an ample pantry built-in on one side. There are also original glass fronted cabinets in this room. A long rear entry porch is at the back of the house that connects with a smaller room thats suitable for an office. This was perhaps at one time servant quarters or a quiet retreat.
The master bedroom is located upstairs at the left front of the residence and offers a small dressing area adjacent to two closets. This bedroom adjoins a bathroom that in turn connects with another bedroom making it ideal for use as a sitting room/master bedroom suite. Two additional bedrooms are also on this second floor with a bath separating them. The large wide upstairs hallway offers excellent closet space and access to the permanent stairs leading to a partially finished attic area.
Entrance to the expansive, dry basement is from the kitchen. The basement is suitable for a handymans workshop and offers tremendous storage. There are doors that lead to the back driveway and garage.
Located just steps from the Rowan Public Library and just a few minutes stroll to the middle of downtown where there's 75 shops and 15 restaurants.A variety of churches can also be found in the surrounding walking area. Salisbury is a historic city of about 28,000 and is located about mid-way between the cities of Charlotte, Winston Salem and Greensboro, North Carolina.
