History of Highland Mansion

Originally called "Highland Acres" the history of Highlands goes back to the Gay Nineties when cotton was king and the fertile Brazos River bottomlands were the basis of a strong and prosperous economy. Marlin's hot mineral baths brought visitors from every part of the country to give this central Texas town a sophisticated and cosmopolitan atmosphere, including some of the finest hotels in the State. This is the period in which Highlands was conceived and in the building of the mansion, only quality, careful planning and expert workmanship were permitted.

When construction was completed in 1900 the Clark's Highlands was overwhelming, fabulous, glittering, dignified and regal. Marlin, Texas had a real incomparable mansion and the Clarks had one of the finest homes in the entire state of Texas.

Glenn Hinckley Allen (1860-1943), Architect counts the Highlands Mansion, among his most important works in Texas (1898-1900). Highlands Mansion is owned by the people who's hearts have shaped the past, present and future of this wonderous estate.
