The home in detail

Location is some 10 miles from the Georgia resort of Pine Mountain, 7 miles from Historic Warm Springs, and 30 minutes from Columbus. The home is situated in rural surroundings which were specifically selected as the ideal location for the restored property. The professionally landscaped site optimises the wonderful view of pasture, lake, forest and mountain. The view evokes the theme of classic English 18th Century landscaping. There is a pecan orchard and a fruit orchard.

A long stone driveway leads to the impressive single story frontage, with its raised porch and 12 white columns. There are all the expected features of an antebellum home: high ceilings, wide through hallway, good sized rooms with good lighting through 18 pane windows. There are 7 working fireplaces and many original and period details. All the flooring is the original heart of pine.

Rooms on the main level are kitchen (sympathetically modernised with range and extractor hood, granite tops, double farmhouse sink, compactor, etc), family room , formal dining room, parlour, master suite and study (or nursery/additional bedroom).

Now comes the surprise: the hallway leads into a wonderful high ceilinged sunroom, with three sides of glass and a view over the lake to the distant Oak Mountain. Stairs lead down to a tile-floored English conservatory, again with three sides of glass and doors leading out to the rear patio. The former basement has been converted into 2 spacious en suite bedrooms.

Orchard and ormnamental is about 6 acres and lake about 6 acres. Some 16 acres is planted in commercial quick-growing Southern pine, and the remainder of the land is about equal established mixed forest and pasture, including a 2 acre paddock. The juxtaposition of forest and pasture is ideal for hunting. A creek bisects the land.
