Downstairs playroom could easily be converted into master bedroom. Property has 65X29 ft horse stable with 9X9 tack room, a 30X50 hay barn and 20X35 shed with enclosed 20X8 shelved storage room. The Buchanan House

This was home to Dr. Buchanan as well as his family practice until the 1960's when the family sold the property for commercial use. The house was to be destroyed. Instead two buyers stepped forward. Half of the original 9,000 square foot home was moved to Tyler Texas, where it later burned, and the other half was moved to Quitman, Texas, where it now stands. Much of the original molding and the front door is the original. In the 70's, the home was sold again, and at that time was renovated and updated, as well as an additional wing built, which now includes the large playroom and the master above it. The mantle is hand carved and was salvaged and beautifully renovated from one of Governor Jim Hogg's homes. Jim Hogg was the first native born Texas governor from 1886-1895. Quitman has dedicated a family park to his honor, located on Hwy 37, about 1/4 miles from the courthouse. The park has Hogg’s honeymoon cottage, a museum and Hogg's wife's family home (Stinson House), as well as a large gazebo for country concerts.

Wood County

Quitman is the county seat of Wood County and the courthouse is conveniently located 4.5 miles away. Wood County has many restaurants, churches, antique stores and more. Lake Fork is only ten miles away from the house and is known for the best bass fishing in Texas.
