1878 Robert Bridgeford Italianate Twin House

In the last quarter of the 19th Century, Hannibal developed a unique housing form known as the “twin house.” These identical double houses were built in the Central Park Historic District next to some of the finest Victorian mansions in the Midwest to house the burgeoning upper middle class created by Hannibal’s booming river city economy.

A well-maintained historic structure adapted for a modern lifestyle in this Hannibal, Missouri “Twin House.” Two identical homes conjoined in a 3700+ square foot structure were originally identical side-by-side floor plans.

Most of the exterior details remain on this well cared for twin house. House 314 was adapted to an open floor plan that flows from one large room to the next through a series of wide arches. First floor boasts a modern kitchen and a half bath. The original walnut staircase open to the living area leads to three bedrooms and a full bath on the second floor with windows on the east that provide a view of the Mississippi River.

House 316 once identical to 314 maintains a floor plan closer to its original arrangement.
It has an entry hall with an original open walnut staircase, a large living room open to a large dining room, modern kitchen, and a full bath. Upstairs it has two bedrooms a full bath and a large laundry room that it can share with 314.

The flexible floor plan of the twin house allows the owner to have rental income, studio space, deluxe guest quarters, bed and breakfast and many other options. Enjoy the low maintenance large back yard filled with perennial flower beds. Off street parking for four vehicles.
