Historic Erasmus Whiting House on the St Croix River

The Erasmus Whiting house was originally constructed in 1856 by one of the early St. Croix Valley lumber barons for his brother who was a doctor. It was briefly owned by the Village and operated as a municipal hospital in the 1920’s.

The Taylors Falls area is a historic area that played an important role in the early logging and settling of the St. Croix River valley area. This home is situated on one and a half city lots overlooking the beautiful St. Croix River. Within walking distance to downtown Taylors Falls, churches, trendy restaurants, coffee shops and the Interstate parks and trail systems along the St. Croix River. Across the river in St. Croix Falls you have shopping, theaters both live and cinemas, day spas and wineries. From downhill skiing just up the road, to kayaking, canoeing, and fishing the beautiful St. Croix River, the boundless activities available in the area are limitless. Situated a short 30 minutes up the river from historic Stillwater and 45 minutes from the twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, this area boasts all of the comforts of small town living with the readily available twin cities close by.

The home is approximately 4400 sf and was built in the style of a New England river house. There are 4+ bedrooms up, a sitting room, laundry room, a ¾ bath (shower) and a full bathroom. The main floor has a formal living room/parlor, music room, bathroom, a small office, and another small bedroom. The main floor also has a formal dining room, kitchen with butlers pantry and breakfast eating area that is as large as most dining rooms complete with a fireplace. The kitchen is equipped with all of the modern updates for that gourmet chef in you with Meile appliances including double convection ovens, dishwasher, 5 burner gas cooktop with downdraft exhaust, steam oven and built-in microwave, Subzero refrigerator, and garbage disposal. The butlers pantry is equipped with a separate frost free freezer, wine cooler and laundry sink.

The exterior has had a complete overhaul. A new 30 year roof, new insulation blown into all of the exterior walls and new hardi-plank siding has been installed with fresh paint. There is a lovely south facing deck overlooking the landscaped yard that is fenced and adorn with perennials, lilacs, apple trees and raspberry bushes.
