History

Noted in The Historic Architecture of Wake County, North Carolina (Lally, 1994), the original structure was constructed in the first half of the 19th century by Hillary Thompson. Hillary was the cousin of George Warren Thompson, a North Carolina State Senator from 1844-1849. The homestead was later acquired by Dempsey Adams, and then deeded to Dempsey’s son, Jesse Martin Adams. The surrounding land came to be known as Adams Mountain.

In the last century, the homestead property was recombined into the subdivision also named Adams Mountain. This home is now part of the community and has access to the neighborhood amenities including a swimming pool and tennis courts.
