1821 Coutant Family Farmhouse

This 1821 farmhouse was originally built by James Coutant of the French Huguenot family who founded New Rochelle, NY, in the 17th century.
This is a rare gem only a 29-minute train ride from Manhattan. Convenient to all highways yet with the privacy of a country retreat and the charm of an 1821 farmhouse.

This historic house is 1/2 hour north of Manhattan yet sits on one bucolic acre. Here's a view of the back of house and some of the property.

This wonderful room is surrounded by trees. You walk through the set of French doors from the livingroom into this room. A door leads to the outside back patio.

This lovely stone terrace is right outside of the solarium and provides a view of the back garden. It's a terrific place to entertain. Visible are a couple of the house's porches.

On either side of the working fireplace there are two French doors that lead to the solarium and beyond to the back terrace. All windows are six over six throughout the house.

The beamed ceiling adds a charming quality to this lovely dinning room. It's to the right after the entrance hallway. Beyond you can see the fireplace from the living room

Here's a view from the entrance to the kitchen. The room was completely done over...new cabinets, floor, appliances...four years ago. In doing it over, we wanted to update it without loosing the sense of how it fit in with the rest of the house. There's a lovely, lighted hutch in the corner (can't see it from this shot) which we designed

Here's a different view of the kitchen. There's a lovely, old brick wall that we maintained in the renovation that adds a wonderful charming quality to the room.

This room is approximately 12 1/2' x 20 1/2'. It has a porch right off of it that is slightly smaller than the room and overlooks the property in the back and the stone terrace below.

Guests love to stay in this room, particularly since it has a porch off of it that overlooks the front of the property. The bathroom is right down the hall.
