For Sale or Rent By Owner
1866 Row Building
Amsterdam, New York 12010
1866 Erie Canal Row House
The building has a full basement and is a 3 story solid brick structure. Each floor and basement measure 20 x 80 feet. The first and third stories and basement are vacant now. The newly installed heating units will save you on gas bills. The electric upgrade installation to 200 Amp triple phase was just done last month. The store was redone at great expense just a couple of years ago. The street level floor is made of solid concrete as these buildings were very well built.
There is a full basement with furnace there to heat the ground floor. Second floor has separate heating system. Both are natural gas forced air systems.
The second floor is divided in two each half with its own entrance on the second floor hallway. There is also a doorway connecting the two halves. At present the entire second floor is used as a 1600 private apartment. The third door in the second floor hallway leads to the top floor, The top floor is just an open space that was once a ballroom. There is also the coat room and the remains of the bathroom that was once there.
This is a rare opportunity as vacancies at this location are very rare indeed.

History
This warehouse was the third building to occupy this site. From 1834 to 1865 it was occupied by the AMSTERDAM ACADEMY (a girls school)
Before that there was the OLD GLOVE HOTEL on this same site.
In the basement you will note some very large stone blocks that must have been from the former buildings.
The current building was built in 1866 and that is stated in the deed to the property.
In its first life from 1866 to 1900's it was a warehouse. The wooden freight elevators have been long ago removed from the back of the building. The old rear elevator doors are still there. As the canal traffic slowed down they changed the use of the building.
Then later converted to third floor a speakeasy, second floor 2 offices
ground floor a retail store.
