Paradise in North Carolina

Mr. Smith was the local postmaster and the brother of the owner of G.W. Smith Lumber yard which is still in existence today. This turned out to be a great asset as Mr. Smith used beautiful walnut, oak, and wormy chestnut wood throughout the house to create walls, floors, moldings, and built in bookshelves. Doors are constructed from beautiful solid oak and walnut woods as well. Ten foot ceilings throughout add the feel of nostalgia and grandeur.

The 5000+ square foot floor plan was designed to accommodate Mr. Smith’s five children with five bedrooms upstairs accompanied by three baths. One of these upstairs bedroom is a complete suite with fireplace, bath, and separate inside stairway (which was the original stairway in the log cabin). The downstairs boasts a spacious master suite with bedroom, his and her walk in closets, sitting/dressing room and private bath. Living space includes a 22’ x 15’ living room, huge den/library, large family dining room with bay window wall, sunroom, and large kitchen. The attached spacious two car garage houses an additional upstairs bedroom and bath which was originally the maids quarters and has an outside private entrance. This area is structurally sound but has not been updated and needs remodeling to be functional. A large laundry off the kitchen makes the job easy. The large back brick patio encompasses a built in outdoor grill and sink for easy entertaining. A circle driveway leads two hundred feet off the main road to this large white house on a hill. Two beautiful slate walkways lead to two front entrances.

The house is in immaculate condition inside with refinished hardwood and tile flooring. The wood walls, moldings, doors, and bookshelves are in beautiful condition. The original pegged wood flooring from the 1800’s in the den / study is beautiful. Two of the three fireplaces have gas logs. New stainless steel appliances complement the original stainless steel countertops. The original screened in porch has been enclosed with arched windows to create a beautiful sunroom.

Approximately three of the fourteen plus acres around the house are attractively landscaped with rock flower beds, timbers, mulch, and plants. One building to the right of the house boasts the location of the first dairy in Davidson County. It needs to be refurbished. A large shed style building sits in the back at the bottom of the hill to house tools and equipment. Approximately five acres are fenced in the back yard where two large dogs enjoy romping. Beautiful large hardwoods are growing in ten of the fourteen acres.
