More About This House

Beautiful wood floors, doors, windows and trim in big two-story house in good livable condition on 5 acres in rural Montgomery County, Missouri. Enjoy life in the country, complete with a pasture, barn, garden, fruit trees, flowers and sunsets.

This stylish wooden 2-story house was built in 1902 by the Pearl Beck family who sold it to the Peveler family who cared for it and lived there from 1956 to the present. There are eight bedrooms, one kitchen, one bathroom, five closets; a total of over 2100 sq. ft. The ceiling height of the first story main rooms is 8’ 10.5.” The original beautiful wood working includes a built-in butler’s pantry, hardwood floors, many wooden doors, tall windows and wood trim. There are two porches with ornate wood trim including a second-story balcony. The original slatting and plaster of the walls has been repaired and painted or wall-papered throughout the years. The grandeur of the house is illustrated by the fact that originally the rooms were outfitted with a carbide lighting system (that was removed). A smoke house contains a cellar. Additional out-buildings include a 1975 machine shed (40’ x 60’), a two-car garage and an old hip-roof barn.

Upgrades to the house, made with little change to the historic nature of the house, make it comfortable for modern living. It has electricity, plumbing, steel siding, shingle roof (just a few years old), rural water, deep well and energy-efficient LPG hot water heater with wall registers. The large kitchen has wooden cabinets, linoleum flooring and the appliances stay with the house. The carpet in the living room and bedroom is in good condition. There is a partial basement with two sump pumps where the heater is located. The house was built in a way that facilitates air flow to cool the house; high ceilings, big windows and opening the door to the stairs sends heat upstairs; quickly cooling in the evenings; close windows in the morning to keep the cool in and heat out; window AC units complete the need for especially hot days.

Enjoy and help maintain habitat for grassland birds including these that are known to breed here: E. Meadowlarks, Dickcissels, Bobwhite Quail and Field Sparrow among others. Join a rural community that hasn’t changed much. Much of the surrounding countryside is family farms that have been farmed by the same families for many years. People look out for each other. Frontage off of state highway E, located just 5 miles from the small town of Bellflower, MO that has a true country story (groceries and hardware). Additional stores are located 17 miles away at Montgomery City, MO. To learn more, see “Tract One” at www.wheelerauctions.com; the “Beneficiaries of William (Bill) and Julia Peveler.” All six tracts total about 64 acres. It will be sold by auction on November 15.
