501 South 2nd Street
Clinton, Missouri 64735

The Royal Wilbur Booth House

The curb appeal and grandeur of this home is bar none to any other in the area. Since the day it was built this property has captured the ooh’s and awe’s of everyone. This Tudor style brick home is nestled into a corner lot with beautiful shade trees and surrounded by brick and wrought iron fencing.

You will fall in love before you even step foot inside! Upon entering you are greeted by the beautiful arched doorway and walk right into a formal entry area. To the left you will find a large living room with a beautiful fireplace, French doors that walk out onto the garden patio area, as well as another exit to a large screened in porch.

The large formal dining space with a Dutch style door that leads out onto yet another large screened in porch, will take you back in time to imagine the entertaining that took place in this home.

You will fall in love with the butler’s pantry area that you have to walk through to get to the kitchen. For convenience there is a 1/2 guest bath off the main living spaces. Also, on the main floor of this home you will find 2 bedrooms, a full bath as well as another half bath.

As you walk through this property you will notice elements of history that you won't find in just any home. You will soon discover as you peruse through the property, there are more modern amenities that you might realize for a home built in the 1930s; it has ample closet space with 2 closets in almost every room, automatic lighting in most of the closets, and much more.

On the 2nd floor you will find the remaining bedrooms and a very nice office space with built-in shelving and a private porch area that is also the 5th bedroom. Another unique feature of the home is the space that is currently the home’s attic but has the potential to be converted into even more living space.

And if you haven't been impressed with the size of this home already let me mention that there is a basement as well. The basement living room with fireplace is not finished anymore, but if the walls could talk it would give a story of so much entertaining that took place at this home in the day and it boasts the potential for you to bring the space back to life.

Something worth noting is several big components of this home have been recently upgraded including the HVAC, water heater, roof and foundation supports.

Moving to the outside of the home, this property has the potential to showcase the loveliest of gardens. With many lilacs along the West and South side of the property and a brick patio area, this is the garden of anyone’s dreams.

An 'Egg-celent' Piece of Clinton History

In 1913 a young man attending the Clinton Public Schools named Royal Wilbur Booth took home a free set of eggs to hatch his very own flock of White Rock Chickens.

You may be wondering what this has to do with this lovely property, well, let me tell you. Maybe you've heard Clinton referred to as the 'baby chick capital of the world?' This is why… Mr. booth soon discovered he was on to something and became known for establishing one of the largest hatchery businesses. By the late 1930s a vast number of farmers across Missouri and Kansas were supplying eggs to the Clinton hatcheries, with the Booth Hatchery being one of them.

Because of the success from the Booth Farm and Hatchery Mr. Booth was able to build this very prominent home right here in Clinton MO. And finally, you have an opportunity to own this little piece of history yourself!

A very interesting fact about this home is that when it changed hands from the Booth family it was purchased by another prominent family in the Clinton area, and it was then sold back to relatives of the Booth family who still own the property today. The honor would be yours to have the opportunity to be one of the limited owners of this stately home!
