More About This HouseThis 1915 Tudor is on the National Historic Registry and is located in the much coveted Virginia Highlands of Atlanta GA. It is walking distance to restaurants, schools, grocery store, dry cleaners, library-- you name it. No need for a car!
The builder built this house and his family lived in it while he built 8 other houses in the neighborhood. He hid the upstairs so he wouldn't have to pay taxes on it. This house features 5 bedrooms, 3 baths. It has had just enough renovation to keep it current without taking any of the historic beauty from it.
The living room is gorgeous with crown molding and moves into the dining room with paned doors. There is an enclosed porch that opens onto the back yard. There is a big farm house kitchen with butcher block countertops and a breakfast nook. A laundry room and mud room are nearby. The downstairs has two bedrooms with a Jack and Jill bath as well as a guest bath with a claw foot tub. The upstairs has a large bath and three bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms are attached and make a great nursery. There are three original fireplaces.
Needs some love and sold as is. I have not listed this house yet on any MLS listing or Zillow. I am giving someone who loves old houses and will respect the history, first dibs. We are still painting and doing some yard work.
I have heard some great stories about this house with strangers stopping and to take a peek. It is truly a marvel in an entire Historic Area.
Surrounding AreaWalking distance to Springdale Park Elementary which is a prominent public school in Atlanta.
This community is prime for young people with families.
HistoryI have owned this house for 22 years. I have met over these years a lot of people who have lived in the house or were familiar with it. I've heard about kids growing up and weddings.
Recent ImprovementsI bought this house in 2000. It was converted into a duplex at the time. The duplex was grandfathered in as the Historic Neighborhood wanted to get rid of this. Back in the 70's this neighborhood took a huge hit and owners were doing what they had to do to hold onto their property, so it was actually converted into a triplex at that time. I made it back into a single family home and added an upstairs dormer to contain a master bath and extended the back to create a gourmet kitchen with breakfast nook. The dining room can now make a great in home office. This house is perfect for anyone wanting to live in the Upcoming Prominent Neighborhood in Atlanta. Atkins park is the only historic neighborhood in this particular area.
