c. 1787 Federal Stone Farmhouse
Paris, Kentucky 40361
Harkaway Farm

The Laban Shipp/Abram Spears house is a 4 bed/3 bath stone house listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built in 1787 by famed architect John Metcalf and is noted for it’s stonework. Abram Spears (Jacob’s son) bought the property in 1817. Renovated in the 1930s, it maintains its historical details: 10 foot ceilings, hand crafted mantels, high quality woodwork, several built-ins, random width, wide plank flooring (up to 17in.), 2 foot wide stone walls and original wood pegged beams.
The Trabue log house is also located on the property. Dating from 1785, this log and stone cabin was moved to Harkaway from adjacent property and restored. Most of the cabin was restored to its original time period, but a modern 1 bed/1 1/2 bath living quarters is attached.
There’s also a large log barn that Daniel Boone is believed to have helped build. Gently rolling, the property also boasts a manager's house, two tenant houses, five (nine bent) tobacco barns, one livestock barn with rudimentary stalls, two equipment sheds, a scale house, and a heated shop with concrete floor.
Flat Run flows the length of the property across several fenced livestock fields. In addition to all this, the farm fronts on two roads.
