McNairy-Monroe House (

Actually three houses that were joined together in 1921 by Amos Bush McNairy and his wife, Mary Farnum Pack, she being the daughter of George Willis Pack (beloved benefactor of Asheville, NC fame) and his wife Frances Brewster Farnum.

House now contains two living rooms (main one has marble-faced fireplace that accommodates 4-foot logs), two dining rooms (main one can easily handle 10-12 people for sit-down meal), 6-7 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, garrets, verandas, marble sidewalks and patios, lots of closets and cubbies for storage.

Grand staircase, moldings, French doors, bookcases, lighted corner cabinets, pantries, almost two acres of fairly level land for a back yard with great views of Bromley Mountain. New underground electric service, circular blacktop driveway, municipal water and sewer service, cable and/or satellite TV service.

Some of the basement level space has previously been used as a professional office, could be again. Second floor of carriage barn could also be converted to office space - or an apartment.

House is within walking distance of private Burr and Burton Academy, Equinox Hotel, two golf courses, Mark Skinner Library, Orvis flagship store and fly fishing school. Manchester is home to the Southern Vermont Art Center, Manchester Music Festival, Robert Todd Lincoln's Hildene, a municipal recreation area with swimming pool, various fairs, flea markets, auctions, outlet shopping and close to summer theaters at Dorset and Weston and skiing at Stratton and Bromley.
