From The Archives
c. 1803 Federal
Princess Anne, Maryland 21853
Built in the finest tradition of the early 19th century, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has over 5,000 square feet of living space including a private guest suite in the wing. The house is finished in the highest order with elaborate Federal style woodwork and plaster decoration. The southwest drawing room is especially noteworthy for its large ceiling medallion and cornice of grape clusters and tobacco leaves. Extensive paint analysis has enabled the duplication of the original interior paint colors.
The original smokehouse still stands near the main house. Beckford retains its charm and authenticity while containing all of the modern comforts, including 3-zone central air and access to DSL internet. There is a charming home office off of the main hallway with its own fireplace.
Beckford has been featured in several national magazines. This house is perfect for entertaining with a large formal dining room and a spacious gourmet kitchen and adjoining pantry! The kitchen, has soapstone countertops, double Dacor wall ovens, two dishwashers and a 6 burner Dacor cooktop.
Enjoy the view of the sweeping lawn from the front porch. Curl up with a book in front of one of the 8 fireplaces. Pitch a tent and host an elegant cocktail party for hundreds on the lawn. Or host dinner in the elegant formal dining room. This is Eastern Shore living at its best.
