History

The house was constructed for Dr. Larkin Callaway, Superintendent of the State Asylum of Nevada, Missouri in 1891. Dr. Callaway's name appears in the genealogy of Rebecca Callaway Boone (spouse of Daniel Boone). This is during the first decade of the women's college founded by Virginia Alice Cottey Stockard in 1884. Cottey College has been a center of higher education and culture since its founding. Other notable Nevada residents were Frank James (brother of Jesse James), and noted film director John Huston.

Additional Features that make this house an economical investment

Previous owners had the house termite treated, foam insulation in all walls and ceiling, installed two dual fuel ground source heating/cooling units (upstairs & down), installed double pane replacement windows, installed an on-demand hot water heater, switched from steam heat to forced air, and added steel siding to the house. These improvements make this property competitive economically with newer homes in the community.
