Own a Piece of Richmond History

This beautiful turn of the century home was built by Mr. Elwood McGuire, at the turn of the 20th century. It was a time when all of America was becoming a great industrialized Nation due in part by entrepreneurs like Elwood McGuire. In 1870 Elwood designed a machine that basically brought push mowing to the masses and by 1895 America was building 50,000 lawnmowers a year and shipping them to every country on the globe. On June 7, 1900, just a little over 120 years ago, Elwood purchased this double lot on East main Street. He commissioned local architect/ builder Stephen O. Yates to design and build the house. This marvelous, Free Classic style, 2 story brick home was built in 1901. As many of these magnificent mansions on Millionaire's Row, fell on hard times and in May of 2016, Richmond Neighborhood Restoration Inc. revived the home with $200,000 infusion of renovations cost. At this point this beauty caught the eye of the current owners Dr. Richard & Linda Butler, who have continued to painstakingly complete the renovation to the magnificent and glorious property it is today!
