Unique Features of this Prominent Home
Cupola is 12'x12' with twelve windows. The upper windows are 3.5" x 3.5" perimeter panes of stained glass and has a spiral staircase for access.Wine Cellar is located under the library and is five feet lower than the basement and extends five feet beyond the house and has an arched brick ceiling, brick floor, and steel arched double doors and is 12'x20' and the ceiling is 10' high. Keeps wine at the preffered temperature and also serves as a great root cellar to store your preserves.
Stained glass windows above entry way with house number insert and formal room window upper pane is a custom piece.

Dining room floor, formal room, living room and library have oak and maple parquet floors. The oak and maple give the floors the light/dark effect.

North Hill is a river bluff north of downtown Burlington. This home is one block from a park that commands a beautiful view of the Missippi River approximately 100 feet below.
History of the Mansion on North Hill
This beautiful pre-Civil War home was built for Thomas E. Newman, the first Judge of Iowa, in 1852. Judge Newman assisted later President Lincoln during his 'campaigns' to become President, and was Commissioned by President Lincoln as a Captain in the Union Army. In the early 1900's the home was bought by the Jordan family and remained in the family until 1968. Dr. Philip Jordan was a historian and author, penning the book entitled "Catfish Bend" which is the nickname given to Burlington, Iowa. The home was owned for 4 years by Arthur Grundberg, and then was purchased by Robert and Emilie Schultz, who are credited with the restoral to it's original Victorian splendor as Robert and Emilie spent 30 years methodically restoring or preserving the home while raising their family. Major Bradley E. Bourn, bought the home in 2002 with the intent of leaving the Army and raising a family in this work of art so full of history. This home was created in a time when artisins built homes, and there are so many little details that can be considered no less than amazing.Archived in October, 2012
