History

In the late 1800’s, the Gardner family farmed the area for guava production. Beginning in the early 19th century, the area was platted in city block structure and began developing with single family homes. Today, the neighborhood is characterized as a primarily residential area of modest, cottage-type housing, limited office and commercial uses, and a small warehouse area. More recently, artisans have been moving into the area, occupying some of the warehouses. The unique Urban General Zoning provides for mixed use on the same parcel, both commercial & residential.
