1881 Victorian Italianate
Bellevue, IA

August G. Kegler Home

This luxurious historic Victorian home has been fully restored in the heart of Bellevue. Built in 1881, this house is the perfect combination of charming flair and modern appeal. The house accommodates 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and a 4-car detached garage all on a double lot.

Features of this sophisticated beauty are comprised of tin ceilings, limestone counter tops, new appliances, crown molding, refinished wood floors, exceptional woodwork, and stunning original fixtures. Spaces in this classic home include double parlors with great lighting, a kitchen with custom cabinetry, office, family room with an exquisite bar, enclosed patio, and upper and lower porches. Amazing character that shows the pride the home owner has had in this amazing home from the day they owned it.

Property already zoned for single family and/or bed and breakfast through the City of Bellevue.

Property History: The home was designed by its original owner August G. Kegler* and built by the Bellevue Construction Company with brick manufactured in Bellevue. The home's design (influenced by the late Governor William Larrabee's mansion in Clermont, IA) was originally a stove house (i.e. heated by wood stoves), with four chimneys and no fireplaces. The outside walls are 3 layers of brick with a void between brick and inside stud wall - leaving a vapor barrier. Today the fully insulated barrier offers efficiency in heating and cooling and an exceptional sound barrier from outside distractions.

*A prominent figure in the Bellevue Community, Kegler built and operated Bellevue's first dry goods store and served as its Mayor. He held a post in the Iowa General Assembly, and an inventor/patent holder. The current owners purchased the home from Mr. Kegler's daughter in 1980.
