More About This House
So much history can be yours when you own one of Washington Counties original stone homes. The public record shows a build date of 1879 but original sections of the may date back to 1803. The home sits atop Fairview Mountain along the National Pike just West of Clear Spring Maryland. Originally it was used as an inn for travelers. The area surrounding the home is rich in history including Fort Frederick, the C&O Canal, McCoys Ferry and the Potomac River. The acreage backs to Maryland State Wildlife Management area, which allows hunting. Within a 6 mile radius of the home you'll find snow skiing and golfing at White Tail Ski & Golf Resort, and boating and fishing activities on the Potomac River.
The home and grounds include over 10-acres of land, mostly forested. There are several small outbuildings for storage or animals. The owners have installed a 20x30 duck pond and the property does include several springs. The property contains apple and pear trees and black berry bushes. The original National Pike runs through a section of the property which was abandoned long ago. The stone walls and road bed would make for great hiking trails throughout the 10-acre parcel with pastoral and mountain views in all directions. Out front you'll find a large patio to enjoy all of the views this home offers. Out back you'll find a private court yard perfect for your grill and picnic table.
Step through the front door and you'll find wide plank hardwood floors stretching out in all directions. The current owners had a new addition put on the rear of the home which includes a main floor laundry, half bath, storage area and utility room. The formal living room includes 10+ foot high ceilings and an original fireplace which has been converted to propane. In fact you'll find 10 foot high ceilings throughout the entire home. Adjacent to the living room is the formal dining room with another original fireplace that's been converted to propane gas. The dining room offers table space to seat 8 persons comfortably.
Just beyond the dining room is the renovated kitchen. In this space the owners spared no expense and even bumped the kitchen out into what was originally just a walk-way. Note that this room is flooded with natural sunlight thanks to an entire wall of South facing windows. The kitchen offers hardwood floors, huge brick fireplace with gas insert, exposed stone wall, maple cabinets, granite counters, recessed lighting, historic center island, built-in wine rack, vented range hood, stainless steel appliances, farm house style sink, tile back-splash, and so much more. This is a space you'll find yourself spending much of your time in. The home contains an original staircase to a large attic/garret area above the kitchen that could be turned into a 3rd bedroom.
Climbing the stairs to the second floor you'll find yourself in a spacious landing with access to both bedrooms and the deluxe full bath. The master-bedroom includes a custom wardrobe for storage, hardwood floors and some amazing views from every window. The master-suite measures 12x20 and offers plenty of space for your king size bedroom furniture. The full bath on this level includes a double vanity, corian counters, hardwood floors, all tile walk-in custom shower, claw foot soaking tub and is the perfect spa like setting to relax and refresh after working in the yard.
The home includes a full attic for additional storage. The home includes many energy saving features like a propane tankless hot water heating system and geo-thermal heating/cooling system. The home is equipped with 7500 watt diesel generator and the homes wiring is generator ready with sub-panels to run important items. The owners have installed a 500 gallon buried propane tank, which is owned not leased. Wiring and plumbing have been updated throughout the home.
