History, as best we can figure so far.

Prior to 1850 - A plain rectangular house with one chimney on the north end, and a detached kitchen around back of the house exist at this location.

c. 1850 - The roof and walls of the plain house are deconstructed. A 6 room, "T" style two story house is built for or by Pastor Charles Phillips. The bottom floor and chimney of the original cabin are part of the 'new' construction. The house and kitchen are connected.

c. 1880 - The house is inherited by Pastor Phillips' son, Dr. Charles Phillips.
Starting after 1880 Dr. Phillips adds two more rooms to the north end of the house. Later he widens the connection between the kitchen and house. During this time Dr. Phillips also constructed a shed and large barn about 100 yards north of the house. He probably had cows, horses, chickens, hogs, maybe some mules and goats.

c.1900 - Dr. Phillips added another two story addition on to the south end of the house consisting of 4 bathrooms. The dining room, part of the kitchen connection, is widened another 3 feet. Knob and tube electrical wiring was also installed around this time.

1902 - Dr. Phillips adds two more small rooms off the kitchen by enclosing parts of the porch.

c. 1920 - Dr. Phillips moves to downtown Thomasville and leaves the house to one of his sons. Marion Phillips. Marion Phillips apparently decides not to live in the house and it becomes a rental property through the early 1970's.

c. 1973 - The property is purchased by Linda Swofford Steadman. She fixes up the house but does not restore it.

2015 - Linda Swofford passes away and we purchased the property from her estate wearing rose colored glasses.
