Dalton Gang Robbery History, Kansas

Dalton Gang Robbery History! Charles M. Ball Home, built in 1906, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and Register of Historic Kansas Places. It is located in Coffeyville, KS and has approximately $15,000 in transferable Kansas tax credits so your KS individual taxes will be "free" for several years!!!
Charles Ball is best known for involvement in the Dalton Gang’s Raid of Condon Bank on October 5, 1892. As the gang arrived to rob the bank that morning, they encountered Cashier Charles Ball, who concocted a story about the safe being on a time lock. Four of the five robbers were eventually fatally wounded by the ensuing gunfire outside the bank. Ball, who was involved in banking, businesses, and real estate dealings during the early 20th century, owned the house until his death in 1922.
The home had been a bed and breakfast and has two guest suites, one on the third floor and one a carriage house/garage apartment. Both contain kitchens and baths.
Three large bedrooms are located on the second floor: a large master suite with ensuite bathroom. This suite includes two cedar-lined closets, one walk-in closet, as well as a smaller closet. Two other bedrooms on the second floor could share the main second floor bath for additional guest rooms. A large atrium is on the second floor that can be utilized by family for games and family time.
The home is walkable and centrally located near the town center, restaurants, coffee shops, and local community college. The family will enjoy the spacious rooms, front and back porches, landscaped gardens, and brick patios. Historic features include: original light fixtures; 2 gas log fireplaces; front & back stairs; wood floors throughout the home; pocket doors; beveled and leaded glass; crown molding; 11' ceilings on the first floor and 9' ceilings on the second floor. The home has a large, 3-season front porch, as well as a screened back porch with plantation perimeter shutters and an Eclipse motorized awning for sunny days. The home has a large, unfinished basement for storage where the radiant heating unit and water heaters are located. It is accessible via the interior, as well as by an exterior steel, bolt door. The home's Carthage Stone foundation is supported by 32 piers with steel I-Beams on two-thirds of the home. The south one-third of the house has 6 x 6 treated lumber posts, encased by 1/2 inch angle iron. A whole house water softener is also located in the basement.
Coffeyville has its own electrical department that generates electricity via gas turbines. It secures additional hydro-electrical power from Grand River Dam Authority, northeastern Oklahoma, if needed. Coffeyville has a temperate climate; annual average snow fall of 11 inches; average annual rainfall of 48 inches.
