History of Asheville Bed & Breakfast Inn
The Asheville Black Walnut Bed & Breakfast Inn was built in 1899 by Richard Sharpe Smith, supervising architect of the Biltmore Estate. It showcases the English Shingle style of architecture and features a pebbledash exterior. The Black Walnut was the private residence of Ottis and Aileen Green until the mid- 1970s, and was converted into a bed-and-breakfast in 1992.
Purchased in 2004 by Peter and Lori White, formerly of Martha’s Vineyard, MA and Palm Beach, FL, the Inn underwent a dramatic transformation. In 2007 the original Carriage House of the property was renovated, and now offers two pet-friendly guest rooms.
