Three Chimneys

Three Chimneys is a grand home in the Georgian Revival design built in 1916, when Pinehurst was a village created as a winter retreat for New Englanders who enjoyed playing Pinehurst No. 2 (site of U.S. Men’s Open in 1999, 2005, and 2014), designed by Donald Ross in 1905.

Pinehurst has remained a cultured village, the destination of people from all over the world, with considerable effort and planning to retain the charm and safety of the early 1900s.

Three Chimneys remains one of the great houses of the area, nestled amongst 200 historical homes. The house was restored in 2000, with a completely new kitchen and many updatings carefully completed in the style of the 1910s. It sits on 0.86 acres, has approximately 7,500 square feet, large central rooms (17x34 living room, 23x35 entertaining room, 18x25 kitchen, 17x19 dining room), 7 bedrooms, 6 full and 3 half baths, a mother-in-law suite, two offices, and considerable closets throughout. Additionally, there is a billiard room in a finished basement, other rooms in a second basement, and an attic with ample storage.

The house is considered a “founding member” of the Pinehurst Country Club, and membership to Pinehurst #1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 is included with purchase of the home. If you love golf, play fabled #2 year-round. Add tennis, croquet, lawn bowls, and two restaurants, and the club is an ideal setting for family and friends. In addition, there are 40 golf courses within 20 minutes. The Club, the historic Carolina Hotel, and the Village shops are a 10-minute walk. Modern shops, grocery stores, movies, fine and everyday dining, the County Hospital, etc. are within a 10-minute drive. Raleigh, the state capital, is a 75-minute drive; Charlotte is 90 minutes; the mountains are 3 hours; and the ocean is 2 ½. Visit these and other areas, but return to Pinehurst with beautiful houses, friendly people, very low crime rates, and good weather.
